"The Young Bloods" is a very typical and very enjoyable Prestige jam session. It was recorded on November 2, and features Donald Byrd on trumpet, Phil Woods on alto sax (these two are actually listed as co-leaders), Al Haig on piano, Teddy Kotick on bass, and Charlie Persip on drums.4/5(1).

gram pressing by Quality Record Pressings has a flat edge profile and deep groove label, true to the original LP. Deluxe high-gloss tip-on album jacket. For this early hard bop date, altoist Phil Woods and trumpeter Donald Byrd were co-leaders. In fact, the music had at one point earlier on been released with Byrd getting first billing.

This hard bop Prestige release features Phil Woods and Donald Byrd co-leading a quintet rounded out by Al Haig (piano), Teddy Kotick (bass) and Charlie Persip (drums). The 6-song set is dominated by four strong originals from the prolific Woods including "House of Chan" and "In Walked George" which also see the alto saxophonist taking solo honors in style.

Jun 13,  · referencing The Young Bloods, LP, Album, Mono, Ltd, RE, , APRJ A, LP This record sounds good, very quiet pressing, but I really can't say it's appreciably better than an OJC. The deep groove and flat edge are interesting, but kind of gimmicky/5(42).

The Young Bloods was recorded in , so that would make Donald Byrd 24, Phil Woods 25, Toddy Kotick 28, Charlie Persip 27 and Al Haig as the older, at the age of Legitimate enough to be named “The Young Bloods” and great enough to be considered a classic Hard Bop album. A must have.
