For example: On the Ladies Love Outlaws album I made the strategic mistake of putting both a saxophone and a pedal steel on the same song (can’t recall which one – maybe the title track). It got no airplay because pop radio wouldn’t play anything with a pedal steel (“too country”) and country radio wouldn’t play anything with a sax.

Tom Rush's main strength, Ladies Love Outlaws plunges the listener full-tilt into the country-rock sound which so many were finding in the mid-'70s. Included here are Guy Clark's "Desperados Waiting for a Train," Lee Clayton's title track, and a stunning redo of Rush's own "No Regrets" helped along by the likes of the Eagles and Carly Simon on.

The "Ladies Love Outlaws" album, on the other hand, plays more deliberately into the quest the Columbia record label was making to make him their next big star, a la james Taylor. They consciously tried to use Rush's "bad boy" image in playing up songs like the title cut, "Maggie", and "Claim On Me" to try to cast Rush as a kind of high-powered /5(22).

A song collection combining two albums that Tom Rush recorded in (Got a Mind to Ramble and Blues, Songs and Ballads) onto a single ooklaysoncherifalloferchewertestthros.coinfo plays acoustic guitar, accompanied only by Fritz Richmond on washtub bass, for a selection of almost exclusively traditional material; the only track penned by Rush himself is the opener, "Duncan and Brady.".
